EnsadLab s'associe à The ACM International Conference on Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction (TEI) en tant que partenaire, avec la participation de deux de ses chercheurs, Samuel Bianchini et Filipe Pais, qui occupent le rôle de Chairs du programme “Arts & Performance”.
Une "exposition-en-valises" au CAPC
Dans le cadre de la conférence TEI'25, qui se tiendra à Bordeaux du 4 au 7 mars 2025, Samuel Bianchini et Filipe Pais ont conçu un format d'exposition innovant pour le programme “Arts & Performance”. Inspirée par la célèbre Boîte-en-Valise de Marcel Duchamp (1936-1941), cette exposition originale prendra la forme d'une "exposition-en-valises", transportable et déployable par les participants. Chaque intervenant interagira avec le même protocole et un même objet : une valise, offrant une approche collective et évolutive de la présentation artistique.
Cet événement aura lieu le 6 mars au CAPC - Musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux, offrant un espace unique pour explorer les interactions entre l'art, la performance et les nouvelles formes de présentation.
Entre 1936 et 1941, l’artiste Marcel Duchamp s’applique à reproduire en miniature ses œuvres les plus importantes pour pouvoir les insérer dans une même boîte et les transporter dans une valise. C’est ainsi qu’il créa sa fameuse Boîte-en-Valise (Box in a Suitcase). Celle-ci peut désormais être considérée comme un Musée portatif tant le déploiement attentionné de la boîte et de son contenu permet la mise en espace d’une exposition d’un nouveau genre.
Transportable, manipulable et déployable ce sont des caractéristiques qui ne sont pas sans anticiper le type d’œuvres que l’on peut s’attendre à rencontrer dans une exposition comme celle d’une conférence TEI. C’est à la fois le sujet de la conférence qui veut cela, mais aussi, plus simplement encore, sa nature même : c’est une conférence internationale. Y viennent du monde entier des centaines de chercheurs et chercheuse, designers, artistes et autres makers pour des conférences, des rencontres, des performances et une exposition. Celle-ci dure deux ou trois jours, c’est un événement. Son économie comme son écologie pousse à imaginer une exposition “Tangible, Embedded and Embodied”. C’est ainsi, une “Exposition-en-Valises”, qui est proposée pour TEI 2025, une exposition transportable et déployable par les participants, jouant toutes et tous avec le même protocole imaginé à partir de la proposition de Marcel Duchamp et à partir d’un même objet : une valise. Ainsi, non seulement les œuvres devront être de nature à répondre à la thématique de la conférence mais aussi à participer à celle-ci à l’échelle de son organisation. Sur place, compte-tenu de ce protocole resserré, une scénographie sobre autant qu’élégante, qui donnera une place prépondérante à la lumière, sera imaginée pour valoriser et tirer parti au mieux de ce dispositif commun ponctué de valises qui devront rester visibles.

A "Suitcase-Exhibition" at CAPC
As part of the TEI'25 conference, which will take place in Bordeaux from March 4 to 7, 2025, Samuel Bianchini and Filipe Pais have designed an innovative exhibition format for the “Arts & Performance” program. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s famous Boîte-en-Valise (1936-1941), this original exhibition will take the form of a "suitcase-exhibition," transportable and deployable by participants. Each speaker will interact with the same protocol and object: a suitcase, offering a collective and evolving approach to artistic presentation.
This event will take place on March 6 at the CAPC - Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, providing a unique space to explore the interactions between art, performance, and new forms of presentation.
Between 1936 and 1941, the artist Marcel Duchamp worked on reproducing his most important works in miniature, so they could be inserted into a single box and transported in a suitcase. This is how he created his famous Boîte-en-Valise (Box in a Suitcase), which can now be considered a portable museum, as the careful unfolding of the box and its contents allows for the spatial presentation of a new type of exhibition.
Transportable, manipulable, and deployable are characteristics that anticipate the type of works expected in an exhibition at a TEI conference. This is both due to the nature of the conference itself and, more simply, because it is an international conference. Hundreds of researchers, designers, artists, and other makers from around the world attend for conferences, meetups, performances, and exhibitions. This exhibition lasts two or three days and is an event. Its economy and ecology push for a “Tangible, Embedded, and Embodied” exhibition. Thus, a "Suitcase-Exhibition" is proposed for TEI 2025, a transportable and deployable exhibition by participants, all working with the same protocol inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s idea and using the same object: a suitcase. Not only must the works respond to the conference’s theme, but they must also participate in its organization on a larger scale. On-site, given this tight protocol, a minimalist yet elegant scenography will be designed to highlight and make the most of this common system, punctuated with suitcases that must remain visible.
